Good schools are good for business. They produce a well-trained workforce and attract new residents and customers to the community. BOAST Maryland seeks to strengthen the partnership between Maryland’s business and education communities by supporting programs that give businesses a strong incentive to invest in local education.
The partnership between Maryland's businesses and schools is particularly important at this time. Both public and private schools face budget cuts and rising costs. Without an increase in scholarship assistance, many nonpublic school students will be redirected into overcrowded public schools. In addition, Maryland is preparing for an influx of more than 25,000 families through the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program, which will place additional strains on public schools.
The BOAST Maryland Tax Credit will provide businesses with a 75 percent state income tax credit for donations to scholarship organizations that support private school students or to enrichment programs for public school students. Donations can also support education programs for teachers at both public and private schools.
