Enrichment Programs
Enrichment programs play a vital role in educating K-12 students in Maryland. Each year, tens of thousands of Maryland students and teachers participate in innovative learning programs offered by nonprofit organizations throughout the state. These programs encompass a range of learning activities that are not part of the regular school curriculum, including afterschool programs, weekend programs, and field trips. Many of these programs target educational content or special needs that may not be fully addressed during school hours, such as arts education, environmental awareness, technology skills, leadership skills, language skills, mentoring, or tutoring.
In addition, many of these nonprofit education organizations offer teacher workshops and professional development opportunities that help teachers strengthen their content knowledge, instructional methods, and teaching qualifications.
